Description
Offered today is a gorgeous vintage solid 14k yellow gold large "sheaf of wheat" brooch pin, which can also easily be worn as a pendant by adding a chain through the top part of the pin stem, as I've done in the photos.  Although there is not a dedicated bail, this brooch is crafted so that the pin stem and closure do not show from the front of the piece, therefore allowing it to be worn as a pendant.  This piece is being offered in NEW, UNWORN condition, although it is most likely a 1950s - 1960s piece.
Wheat has long been a popular motif in jewelry, and is widely symbolic in nature, representing prosperity, abundant harvest, Christianity, and fertility, among other things.
I took a lot of pictures so you could see the 3d nature of the piece. The individual wheat stems curl around the front and the back, with figural leaves, and the sheaf is bound together by a rope at the bottom.  It's very nicely crafted, with a lot of attention to detail.
This sheaf of wheat brooch pendant measures 2" by 1 1/8" wide.  It's hallmarked 14KC.  It weighs a hefty 6.4 grams, and is in new condition.
